CATIA V5 – Losing File Association

Dassault Systems very often brings new releases CATIA V5. The latest issue of CATIA V5 is V5-6R2016 (often referred to as R26), however, a small number of users use the latest release. The reason is numerous work environment constraints. Large companies do not mostly upgrade to any new software version, but decide on it in multi-year cycles, avoiding any problems that may arise due to incompatibility with previous versions.

When a user decides to upgrade a system with, for example, CATIA V5R20 on CATIA V5-6R2014 (R24) in the installation directory (usually C: \ Program Files \ Dassault Systems for the WIN64 system) will find two CATIA V5 installations. This is shown as two separate installations in the B20 and B24 directories for CATIA V5R20 and CATIA V5-6R24, respectively. If the user does not need the older version of the software, it is possible to uninstall and remove the B20 directory.

The problem that a user can face is that icons are not displayed as standard CATIA icons./ikone_se_ne_prikazuje_kao_standardne_u_catia_softveru

In order to solve the problem it is necessary to make the following steps:

  1. Open cmd.exe (as administrator!)

  2. Change the folder in the cmd window by typing "CD / code / bin" (usually C: \ Program Files \ Dassault Systems \ B24 \ win_b64 \ code \ bin), then press Enter.

  3. In the next line, type "CNEXT.exe / regserver" and press Enter.
  4. It will look like nothing is done and the next line will be displayed. Now you need to restart your computer.

This issue should be resolved and the icons should normally be displayed.
